Fuel Friday: In the Hands of God

O Friend, it is a dreadful thing to fall into the hands of an angry God.

If you are unaware of the Gospel, let me briefly explain:

There is a God, an Almighty God, that created everything. He created it perfect and without blemish. He had one law for his creation, and they broke it after being tempted by a fallen angel in the form of a serpent (Gen. 1-3).

God had warned them of the wages of sin (disobeying Him)…death (Rom. 6:23). Physically, they didn’t die until much later, but spiritually, they died immediately. And all people born afterward have been born spiritually dead (depraved).

God loved His creation, but because He is Holy, He couldn’t leave sin unpunished, so He provided a perfect substitute in the God-Man, Jesus Christ. Jesus was 100% God and 100% man, perfect in thought, word, and deed. He took the punishment (death) that we deserve in order to bring mankind to repentance and salvation in Himself (2 Pet. 3:9).

In order to be saved, we must be convicted of our sin by the Holy Spirit and repent. This means that we recognize our disobedience to God as wrong and turn to follow God’s ways instead of our own, doing His will for His sake. Because we love Him and are in awe of Him.

You cannot lose you salvation if you are truly saved, and your salvation will be evident by the things you do and say. You cannot become perfect in this lifetime, but God’s grace in saving you from your sin is the same grace that empowers you to overcome temptation and do His will. And doing His will out of love for Him brings Him glory, which is our sole purpose on this earth.

This gospel. This salvation. It changes our lives every day. Is it changing yours? Do you belong to Christ and rely on His saving grace? Is He your only hope for eternity and overcoming temptation? I pray so.

Evermore and evermore. Amen.
