The issue of homosexuality and transgenderism should be easy for Christians to navigate, and yet we tend to get sucked in by society and swayed by movements in culture. Today, we’re talking about truth. It is not my intention to offend, but if I do offend you, I hope it is because of the truth and not because of me. If your ears are open to hear the truth, I trust that you won’t be offended.
The quality or characteristic of being sexually attracted solely to people of one’s own gender.
Denoting or relating to a person whose sense of personal identity and gender does not correspond with their birth sex.
These are the things we’re dealing with. We could go through the definitions of every letter they choose to represent themselves with, but these are the two words that best summarize the letters and the movement. Straight out of the gate, I’m going to tell you that LGBTQ+ lifestyles are wrong. Here’s why:
Then God said, “Let Us make man in Our image, according to Our likeness; let them have dominion over the fish of the sea, over the birds of the air, and over the cattle, over all the earth and over every creeping thing that creeps on the earth.” So God created man in His own image; in the image of God He created him; male and female He created them.Genesis 1:26-27
Literally, the translation of “male and female” is “male and female.” Separate entities. There is male and there is female. They are not the same, and God created each of us as either male or female. We are created this way. People sometimes say they were born homosexual or bisexual or transgender and, in a way, they’re kind of right. All of us were born sinners. That doesn’t excuse us when we live in sin. Sin condemns us.
“You shall not lie with a male as with a woman. It is an abomination.”Leviticus 18:22
“A woman shall not wear anything that pertains to a man, nor shall a man put on a woman’s garment, for all who do so are an abomination to the LORD your God.”Deuteronomy 22:5
An abomination. Offensive to God. Detestable. We aren’t meant to dress like to look like the opposite sex or sleep with our own. Pretty cut and dried. Still not convinced?
Therefore God also gave them up to uncleanness, in the lusts of their hearts, to dishonor their bodies among themselves, who exchanged the truth of God for the lie, and worshiped and served the creature rather than the Creator, who is blessed forever. Amen. For this reason God gave them up to vile passions. For even their women exchanged the natural use for what is against nature. Likewise also the men, leaving the natural use of the woman, burned in their lust for one another, men with men committing what is shameful, and receiving in themselves the penalty of their error which was due. And even as they did not like to retain God in their knowledge, God gave them over to a debased mind, to do those things which are not fitting; being filled with all unrighteousness, sexual immorality, wickedness, covetousness, maliciousness; full of envy, murder, strife, deceit, evil-mindedness; they are whisperers, backbiters, haters of God, violent, proud, boasters, inventors of evil things, disobedient to parents, undiscerning, untrustworthy, unloving, unforgiving, unmerciful; who, knowing the righteous judgment of God, that those who practice such things are deserving of death, not only do the same but also approve of those who practice them. Romans 1:24-32
For this is the will of God, your sanctification: that you should abstain from sexual immorality; that each of you should know how to possess his own vessel in sanctification and honor, not in passion of lust, like the Gentiles who do not know God; 1 Thessalonians 4:3-5
Does this mean we should hate homosexuals and the people who support them? No. As Christians, we are called to love, not hate. But we are also called to share the Gospel and the truth. These people are still people, created in the image of God. They are living in sin, just as you once did. They need a Savior to free them from the bonds of sin and the wrath and judgment of God. Do not condone them. Love them. Tell them the truth.
Do you not know that the unrighteous will not inherit the kingdom of God? Do not be deceived. Neither fornicators, nor idolaters, nor adulterers, nor homosexuals, nor sodomites, nor thieves, nor covetous, nor drunkards, nor revilers, nor extortioners will inherit the kingdom of God. And such were some of you. But you were washed, but you were sanctified, but you were justified in the name of the Lord Jesus and by the Spirit of our God. 1 Corinthians 6:9-11
